Speeches are always one of my favourite parts of a wedding to photograph.

I photograph the person speaking, but I also constantly watch the couple and their guests.
A parent's emotional reaction, the bride laughing at a story, the groom looking across the room or friends reacting to the best man's speech can produce some of the strongest photographs of the entire wedding.

This is where documentary wedding photography becomes especially important. The moments are genuine, unpredictable and impossible to recreate afterwards.

The Fairfax Barn is a beautiful 17th-century Kentish timber-framed barn. Leeds Castle describes it as a characterful space with rustic charm, impressive oak beams and views towards the Castle.

Historical Leeds Castle material dates the timber-framed building to 1680, making it a particularly atmospheric location for couples who want their reception to retain a strong connection to Kent's architectural heritage.

From a photography perspective, the contrast between the grandeur of Leeds Castle and the rustic character of Fairfax Barn gives a wedding gallery wonderful variety.

The exposed oak beams and timber-framed structure create a warm backdrop for reception photographs, speeches, dinner and dancing.

Once the first dance begins, photography changes again.

This is the point where I can introduce more creative flash photography, movement and different compositions to capture the energy of the evening.
I photograph not only the couple but also their guests dancing, laughing and celebrating around them.

Fairfax Barn is currently designed for larger evening celebrations and Leeds Castle lists exclusive-use capacity for 80 to 180 guests in its current package.

The combination of a historic timber-framed barn, terrace and views of the Castle makes the evening feel very different from the earlier part of the wedding day.

My approach as a Leeds Castle wedding photographer is to create a complete visual story rather than a collection of disconnected posed photographs.
The day can begin with quiet getting-ready moments, move through the ceremony and family photographs, continue with portraits around the Castle and gardens, and finish with speeches, dancing and an evening celebration in the 17th-century Fairfax Barn.

Most of these moments are photographed naturally as they happen.

When direction is helpful—for family groups, couple portraits or choosing the best location and light—I will guide you without turning the wedding into a continuous photo shoot.
